For the first time in his presidency, Donald Trump declares a state of emergency. Our country is in a huge political struggle and both the institution and the public are traumatized by the situation, while the drug lords make billions on opioids.
Donald Trump and the entire nation behind him declared WAR on drugs. This is a huge step to protect the next generation and end the new wave of deadly drugs.
President Trump just declared his first national emergency as sitting President. Trump just told reporters that the opioid crisis is a national emergency and his administration is drawing up paperwork to make an official declaration of such.
“The opioid crisis is an emergency, and I’m saying officially right now it is an emergency,” he saidaccording to Reuters.
“It’s a national emergency. We’re going to spend a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money on the opioid crisis… We’re going to draw it up and we’re going to make it a national emergency. It is a serious problem the likes of which we have never had.”
Trump continued speaking candidly like no politician has ever had the courage to do and we love him for it.
“You know when I was growing up they had the LSD and they had certain generations of drugs. There’s never been anything like what’s happened to this country over the last four or five years. And I have to say this in all fairness, this is a worldwide problem, not just a United States problem. This is happening worldwide. But this is a national emergency and we are drawing documents now to so attest.”
This declaration, the first of his presidency, was made from his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., where he is waiting out renovations to the White House. It comes just two days after Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price told reporters that they were reviewing the situation but that they thought they had it under control.
“We believe at this point that the resources that we need or focus that we need to bring to bear to the opioid crisis can be addressed without the declaration of emergency,” Price said.
The recommendation to declare the opioid crisis a national emergency came directly from the Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis, which Trump established after winning the election.
This is a bold move by our government. God bless our President and everybody who is going to make a commitment in the war against opioids. We have to protect our children.
